Changing Tides

Have you ever noticed how a team's energy changes when certain people enter the room?

I once worked with someone whose smile and encouragement brought warmth to every conversation. Their presence eased tension, sparked ideas, and made people feel comfortable contributing.

That kind of influence creates a positive current. People feel safe to collaborate, share different perspectives, and stay focused on moving goals forward.

I've also worked with someone who had the opposite effect. Their concerns were often valid, but the way they expressed them discouraged participation. People became hesitant, conversations narrowed, and good ideas went unspoken.

Culture is shaped by moments like these. Positive energy strengthens teamwork, commitment, and shared purpose. Negative energy, left unchecked, can lead to disengagement, isolation, and eventually burnout.

As leaders, how do we recognize those shifts before they begin to affect the team?

As a coach, I help leaders and teams notice patterns, understand what's underneath them, and intentionally create conditions where people can do their best work.

How do you encourage positive influence while addressing negativity in a productive way?

When people feel heard, valued, and connected to meaningful goals, the current changes and progress becomes easier to sustain.
