I’m just back from the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS) Americas Annual Meeting, energized by the people focused on optimizing the impact of Medical Affairs. The agenda offered relevant and timely topics that most, if not all companies are navigating. There were good discussions with open sharing of ideas and experiences, and a wonderful opportunity to catch up with colleagues.
I had the opportunity to lead a workshop on “Mastering Compliance in an Evolving Regulatory, Technology, and Patient Environment” with Pamela Lonzer and Maureen Lloyd as representatives of the Medical Governance and Compliance Domain. The cases focused on the interface of commercial and medical pre-authorization, transfer of value to patients, sponsoring genetic testing, and compliance related to AI. The audience was engaged, sharing insights and posing questions, prompting great discussion. Pamela and Maureen were great partners, bringing valuable experience to the conversation.
The MAPS annual meetings bring together a dynamic, worldwide network of Medical Affairs professionals at every stage of their careers—connecting thought leaders, emerging talent, and solution providers to collaboratively drive the future of the field. This diversity strengthens the community and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration.
When a presenter described herself as a “dinosaur” in the field, I had a good chuckle when I realized I had more years of experience. Reflecting on the changes in compliance over the course of my career in the industry, I think the evolution of the guidance has strengthened the industry.
