Planting Seeds

A young man deeply connected to his Hindu faith recently shared a quote with me that I continue to consider:
“The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.” — Rabindranath Tagore
It is a reminder that some of our most meaningful contributions may not reveal their full impact right away.
As a coach, teacher, mentor, and foster parent, I try to be fully present in each role. But the truth is, I may never know how a conversation, encouragement, challenge, or moment of care shapes someone’s path over time.
That is the power of service, leadership, and human connection: we plant seeds without always seeing the shade they create. Every interaction has the potential to ripple far beyond the moment.
So today I am asking myself: What am I planting that someone else may one day grow from?
What is one “seed” someone planted in your life that continues to shape you today?
